How do you revise your novel or story and bring it to a polished final draft? In this webinar, award-winning author and editor Jeanne Lyet Gassman discusses some of the tricks of the revision process, including creating an editing map, breaking down chapters and scenes, and analyzing character arcs. She also looks at the difference between global issues and local issues, and how to avoid the trap of tunnel revision. Note: This session includes tips for both fiction authors and memoir authors. Do you have any experience you would like to share? The free version of Mendeley seems acceptable (and it's free). But I am beginning to like the flexibility I am getting using Endnote 21. I'm just not sure about the $275.00 price. You wrote 7 books Having more experiences is what I learned to just keep writing. When I write dialogue it allows me to speak and be heard. It's healing to read aloud in the sight of Jesus Christ who's voice I speak throughout my story Based on actions I've taken such as praying everyday. We have to have a CONFLICT in between in order to write meaningful dialogue. For an example, I'm overcoming a secondary homeless situation, Douglas Humphrey The Preacher let me live at the Triangular Community Church for 1 year. Perhaps, he told me the Insurance Company said I couldn't live there anymore cause it went against their Insurance Policy. In the manuscript submission process, there are three common writing and editing mistakes she sees authors making: 1) Not following the submission guidelines including formatting and file types 2) Not identifying and writing for your target reader 3) Not demonstrating what is different about your work, and how it's bringing a new perspective to what is already in the market Newton encourages authors to set the publisher up for success by addressing these things prior to submission. While this can work well for some, children's author Rob Harrell prefers to get feedback in chunks during the writing process. Harrell has written eight books with the same agent and editor including his graphic novels Monster on the Hill , Life of Zarf , and Batpig , and his middle-grade novel, Wink . Once Harrell has written a portion of his first draft, he shares it with his trusted agent and editor for feedback and continues to send the manuscript in chunks as he gets it completed. Harrell looks forward to the feedback and finds it often aligns with what he was already thinking. This process works well for Harrell and makes the writing process more collaborative. www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../UsingYourNetworkforFeedbackDuringtheWritingProcess.mp4

Wiki Page: Author and Editor Leah McNaughton Lederman on Her Editing Process

Even professional editors need multiple sets of eyes on their work to make sure it's as polished as possible! Author and editor Leah McNaughton Lederman follows a multi-stage process when editing her own work. As she's writing, she tracks all of the points she wants to make or themes she wants to extract, and she revisits this lists often during the self-editing stage. This ensures she is addressing everything she intended. After this process, Lederman shares her work with members of her writing group. She highly recommends writers find a group to join or use beta readers for feedback. She provides specific questions about her work to her peers to focus the feedback. Lederman then reviews all of the feedback she receives to determine what revisions need to be made. If it's something that many have commented on she will revisit it. If it's something that only one person commented on, she will determine whether or not she agrees with the suggestion. Two additional tools she uses in the process include reverse outlining and sentence wrangling. When it comes to the editing process, Lederman encourages writers to be open to feedback and willing to improve. Otherwise, you will not be producing your best work. www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../AuthorandEditorLeahMcNaughtonLedermanonHerEditingProcess.mp4

Comment on Five Tips for Self-Editing - video

Thank you for sharing this information to make me stay strong as I start my first editing.
