Sara Stratton, owner of Redwood Publishing, advises authors to remember that Amazon knows to whom you are marketing. The website can determine if a friend or family member is leaving a review for your book, and these reviews will generally be removed. Authors should instead encourage reviews from their larger following and network online. It’s not always wise to share your Amazon link on Twitter or Facebook asking for reviews, because Amazon will also be able to tell if a reviewer followed that specific link – this can also qualify as a biased review. There are a lot of things to be careful of, Stratton says, but it is possible for readers to find your book organically and leave qualified reviews.
