Trade review journals like Foreword Reviews, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, Booklist, and Library Journal exist to help librarians and booksellers identify the best books to stock on their shelves. The journals each employ many dozens to hundreds of freelance reviewers to write objective, opinionated reviews under tight editorial supervision. The key word is objective. The book industry needs unbiased reviews from trustworthy sources that are released to coincide with the books' publication dates. The aforementioned publishers do not charge for reviews that appear in their journals as they are advertising and subscription supported. A handful of the review journals do offer a pay-for-review service, using the same reviewers and guidelines as they do in their trade publications. In an effort to help you get more professional trade reviews for your books and to explain the pros and cons of paid reviews, this webinar will offer a peek inside the practices and ideology at journals such as Foreword Reviews, and will help improve your chances of selling books to the tens of thousands of libraries and bookstores in North America.
