In order to take advantage of all of the opportunities being presented by Hollywood authors must understand the types of stories that the studios and networks are looking for while also knowing how to navigate this tricky market. In order to get a story noticed by Hollywood, Author Learning Center President Keith Ogorek advises writers to implement the five key elements of an effective story into their manuscripts. For more information on these five elements visit this Author Learning Center blog post.

In addition to having an impactful, unforgettable story, Ogorek recommends that authors start networking early to establish relationships with people who are connected to the business. Then, once in discussions about having their work developed for film or television, authors need to fully understand how Hollywood contracts work. He recommends that authors have knowledgeable legal representation to protect their rights and to negotiate a fair deal for all involved.
