It was started by the Straits Times senior journalist Cheong Suk Wai, who has a passion for reading and reviewing books. When Suk Wai started the book club five years ago there were no good meeting options for readers in Singapore, says club member and Penguin Books Singapore&#39;s Carynn Tey. At first, Suk Wai faced resistance from her colleagues, but after they saw the response to the first meeting they began to support her initiative. The National Library Board of Singapore also began supporting the club and offers a free meeting space to the group.&nbsp; Tey enjoys attending the monthly event because Suk Wai has created an inviting, engaging environment where readers can connect.
