In this webinar, freelance publicist and communications expert Lindsey Gobel reviews how authors can prepare and deliver great interviews in the New Year. She discusses the “Dos and Don’ts” of setting up an interview and arranging your media message in advance. In addition, Gobel discusses:

• The key points for participating in an interview with detailed instructions so that authors understand what is appropriate during interviews, how to interact with their interviewer, how to make the most of the interview, as well as the importance of using smaller media hits as stepping stones to larger ones.
• The various types of interviews: phone, in-person, television studio, and radio. She will go over guidelines for each environment, how they differ, and provide quick tips for honing your speaking skills.
• What is appropriate after the interview has ended, as well as follow-up with the interviewer or outlet.

The takeaways from this webinar are invaluable to any author who is interested in spreading their message and increasing awareness about their book in the New Year, through interesting and dynamic interviews with the media.

One of the hardest things for writers is narrowing their story down to a thirty-second pitch or short sound bite for media interviews. Award-winning author Joanie Schirm spent a lot of time defining the theme and message for her debut book, Adventurers Against Their Will, a narrative nonfiction about her family's experiences during World War II. The message that she communicates in her interviews and speaking engagements is moral generosity, or taking action to help someone else, even if it puts you in danger. The key to an impactful message, Schirm says, is to be prepared and be consistent. Work your platform or message into your responses wherever you can.
