Author Jonathan Brown thinks of his book launches as parties. His goal is for attendees to hang out and enjoy each other’s company. He always wants to offer something extra in addition to refreshments and a reading. For Brown’s launch of The Big Crescendo, he played a snare drum in the wine bar where the party was taking place – Brown is a drummer, and so is the book’s protagonist. This offered something extra to the experience and made it an even more worthwhile event for people to attend. When it comes to finding a venue, Brown says it all comes down to budget. Authors must keep in mind that you’ll still have to pay a venue after your book sales, and some bookstores will take as much as 40% of your profits from an event.
