&lt;p&gt;If you have a book signing, panel, or other speaking event coming up, you may be trying to freshen up your public speaking skills. Author and speaker Madeline Sharples offers guidance for authors looking to improve their skills:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1. Take a public speaking class or join Toastmasters International, a nonprofit that promotes communication and public speaking skills.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2. Have notes available. You may not always use them, but the notes can be a comfort to have while you are in front of an audience.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3. Just go for it. Even today, Sharples says she gets nervous before speaking publicly. But once she starts, she gets into a groove and feels at ease.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
