Bestselling author and Wannabe Press founder Russell Nohelty recently made the transition to writing full-length science fiction and fantasy novels after writing comic books and graphic novels for many years. He's found that connecting with readers of genre fiction is much more difficult than connecting with comic book readers. Comics are very visual, and it's often the artwork that makes the sale. Readers can quickly decide whether or not it's for them when they flip through the pages. With a fiction novel, the reader has to decide if the book cover copy appeals to their taste. Nohelty has also found that connecting with comic book readers at conventions and other events is the best way to sell this genre, while online and indirect sales initiatives work better for fiction novels.
