Devorah Cutler-Rubenstein, writer, producer, director, and career coach, found out that many authors didn&rsquo;t know how to pitch their work, so she began to teach them. &rdquo;The pitch is as critical as writing your story,&rdquo; says Cutler-Rubenstein.&nbsp;She acquired a lot of her experience by writing loglines for movies and working with the marketing minds on those projects. The first thing she learned was how to do a proper introduction. This is all about warming up the room. Cutler-Rubenstein gives little, easy tips to make people feel comfortable. The next step is to introduce your pitch. Start with your title, then hop into the description: the character, the genre, and the challenge. Finally, explain why you care about this story. You&rsquo;re trying to bring the entertainment exec or literary agent into the story, so they interact with you and ask for more. Part of capturing this interactive experience is knowing your audience well, so research is an important part of preparation.
