<div class="asl-wikipage-summary">Literary agent Wendy Keller advises authors to evaluate the market and their current following. How many people care about the subject you&#39;re writing about? How big is your subject&#39;s audience? Are you offering something new, different, better, or more? She directs authors to do a careful evaluation of themselves. If you&#39;re a natural writer, begin with a blog. If you&#39;re good on camera, start recording things. She says that an author needs to know if people are attracted to their content. If an author focuses on a small piece of what they are good at, they can build momentum. To start speaking at events, you need to evaluate who would want to listen. An author should offer unique information to generate market appeal. Segment your niche. Authors need to pay attention to the market, if they want to be picked up by publishers or literary agents. Start an email list of your own, and give readers something so that you can start to build a fan club.</div>
