Putting out information of value is better than directly asking people online to buy your book, explains award-winning author and former underground storage tank operator Laurel Anne Hill. Sharing creative content will help you stand out from the many authors who are asking for more readers and book purchases. For example, Hill created a YouTube video called “Cooking With Steampunk” that shares the “ingredients” for a great steampunk story. She didn’t explicitly tell viewers to read or buy her book, but after sharing the video on Facebook, she was on the Amazon bestseller list for steampunk eBooks for three days. Viewers who enjoyed the video gained an awareness of Hill and her work and were able to access it on their own.
