Writing and plot principles don’t solely belong on the pages of an author’s manuscript. After an author has done the hard work of creating a manuscript, the work of storytelling isn’t done. Now, an author needs to tell his or her own story to sell the book. Not only in a broad way, but each post, press release, and piece of marketing content needs to draw the reader further into the author’s story. Who, though, is more qualified than an author to market through story? Erik Deckers, Author and President of Pro Blog Service, talks about the specifics of using storytelling in marketing. Applying storytelling structures is easier said than done. The best book marketing copy incorporates elements of plays and novels. For example, the author bio could be written through the lens of the hero’s journey. Start a promotional piece with a protagonist, include conflict, resolution, and other common story elements. Listen to Deckers explain this approach in the clip below!
