To make your book discoverable on platforms such as Amazon, it's important to understand how these search engines work. Take advantage of Amazon's highly specific categorization to improve your rankings, says book marketing expert and author Desireé Duffy. There are many layers of categories, and books can be sorted by specific topics that will help you get to your core audience more easily. Also make sure the description, keywords, and metadata associated with your book reflect the category and popular search terms as well. At the same time, you should be doing advertising and promotions that point to where your book is available for sale. Contests, giveaways, and early chapter releases all build up your website subscribers and social media followers, which in turn builds up your readership and book purchases as a result. The more readers that purchase your books on these platforms, the higher your rankings.
