Per W Publishing Group Publicity Director Allison Carter, traditional media such as television and radio are still the "bread and butter" of publicity opportunities for authors. There is still a lot of prestige around getting interviews on major television and radio programs.

What authors may not know is how much conversion there can be in the digital space. Per Carter, an author's reach is much greater online because you are not limited to the audience segment that happens to tune in. Because of SEO (search engine optimization) and algorithms, an author's discoverability is much greater online, especially through social channels like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. These users that are discovering your online content are much more intentional with how they engage.

As a Publicity Manager with W Publishing Group, a commercial nonfiction imprint of Thomas Nelson, Elizabeth Hawkins works with authors of trade and nonfiction books including faith-based, general interest, sports, and more, all with an inspirational message. In her experience, she has found the best way to secure media opportunities is to simply reach out.

When trying to garner publicity for a faith-based book, Hawkins encourages authors to make a top 20 list of the media outlets where they'd like to secure an opportunity. Gather the information and contacts and do some old-fashioned networking, she says.

In addition, Hawkins recommends that authors have a one-sheet or sell sheet prepared that they can email or leave behind. This is a one-page document that includes essential information about you and your book including a cover image, author bio, summary of the book, and more.

AI (artificial intelligence) is a trending and somewhat controversial topic in many different industries, including the publishing industry. Nelson Books Senior Marketing Director John Andrade has seen some major advantages with AI as a book marketer. It has helped streamline his work and reduce the amount of time he spends on marketing copy. Down the road, he believes it will help reduce costs and provide really valuable marketing campaign data. No matter what happens, Andrade believes publishers will need to continue to understand the human element and human connection when it comes to book marketing, two things AI can't replicate.

It's a changing world which can be worrisome, but Andrade encourages authors to embrace AI and use it to help you brainstorm or enhance your creativity. AI has been around for a while in the backend of search engines and software, providing many benefits.

AI (artificial intelligence) is a trending and somewhat controversial topic in many different industries, including the publishing industry. Nelson Books Senior Marketing Manager John Andrade has seen some major advantages with AI as a book marketer.

AI (artificial intelligence) is here to stay, so how can authors use this powerful tool to promote their books?

This session with author and book coach Cathy Fyock explores how AI can be used to write summary book descriptions, develop chapter and book titles, test titles, write about the author sections, and much more. You'll learn about the power of great questions and follow-up questions when using AI. While Cathy will use ChatGPT for this discussion, you'll be able to use your favorite AI tool to add pizzazz to your book marketing.

Here is the handout referenced in the session:
www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../ALC_5F00_AI-for-Promoting-Books_5F00_Fyock.pdf
www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../UsingAItoPromoteYourBookandmore.mp4

About the Presenter:
Cathy is The Business Book Strategist, and works with professionals and thought leaders who want to write nonfiction books as a business growth strategy. She is the author of 11 books, including 'On Your Mark', 'Blog2Book', 'Authority', and 'My New Book: The Upcoming Message that will Change the World'. Her book, 'The Speaker Author: Sell More Books and Book More Speeches', became a #1 international bestseller in public speaking and speech writing, authorship, business consulting, publishing books and more.

Cara C. Putman, award-winning, bestselling author of over 40 titles, is an extrovert by nature. When the pandemic hit in 2020, she began missing in-person events and meeting up with her writer friends. She became more active on social media and even did some lives, but felt there was still something missing. That's when her podcast, "Book Talk with Cara", was born.

With around 100 episodes, the podcast can be found on all of the major platforms including Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. In each episode, Putman invites one of her author friends to talk about their books, where they get their ideas, writing process, and more. She'll sometimes host genre specific panels as well. The podcast has been a great way for Putman to introduce writers to readers, and to give readers a "peek behind the curtain" of being a fiction writer.
