An author press kit gives journalists and other media professionals the basic information they will need to learn more about your work. Whether you’re hosting a book launch event, being featured in a magazine, or getting interviewed for a podcast, an author press kit is the easiest way to share who you are and what you do. Author and book PR/marketing expert A.G. Billig compares the press kit to an extended business card. She says each press kit should include the following:
• Your author bio
• A hi-res author headshot
• Photos of your book cover(s)
• Short description of your book(s)
• The latest press release about your work, if one is available
Your author press kit should be housed on a website, and be in a downloadable format, such as a PDF. The press kit will help members of the media formulate specific interview questions for you and accurately explain your work. Best of all, having an author press kit ready at hand shows others that you are a professional and take your work seriously.
