&lt;p&gt;Publicity is different from marketing in that it involves a third-party endorsement from a traditional media outlet. For authors, it includes researching the best media outlets, both locally and nationally, to raise awareness about their work or their brand. Traditional media outlets include newspaper, magazines, radio and television. To execute a successful book publicity campaign an author needs to have a strong social media presence and a good understanding of his or her audience, per Anne Robertson, managing director of public relations at Lavidge. A book publicity campaign is not &amp;quot;one size fits all&amp;quot; and must be customized to fit an author&amp;#39;s genre and audience. She advises that building awareness is an evolution and can take time, so it&amp;#39;s important for authors to be patient and persistent.&lt;/p&gt;
