She queried several literary agents and received a promising response, requesting some manuscript changes and a resubmission. Despite her rewriting efforts, Kuhn was still rejected due to the agent having just picked up a similar manuscript. Discouraged and ready to give up, Kuhn met the owner of Twisted Road Publications, a small independent press, which ended up being the perfect fit for her novel. Some of the key benefits of working with a small publisher, Kuhn says, is more individual attention and more creative input.
