There are more publishing options than ever before for authors, so it's important to be aware of the pros and cons of each option. Morgan James Publishing founder David Hancock says there are three primary paths authors can take:

1) Traditional
2) Self
3) Hybrid

With traditional publishing, you may be required to have agent representation, and you are signing over your book rights to the publisher. Authors typically have little control in the creative process and time line, but do receive the credibility and opportunities that come with being published by a traditional publishing house.

With self-publishing, authors have complete creative freedom and control, but it's up to the author to ensure the book is high quality and well-edited. The big advantage of self-publishing is that authors can usually earn higher royalties on book sales. The main disadvantage of self-publishing is the lack of credibility and support.

Hybrid publishing is a blend of traditional and self-publishing. When signing with a hybrid publishing house like Morgan James Publishing, authors are able to maintain creative control while having access to the publisher's industry connections and credibility.

No matter the chosen path, Hancock cautions authors to be prepared to do most, if not all, of the book marketing.

www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../PublishingOptionsAvailabletoAuthorsandtheProsandConsofEach.mp4
