There are more opportunities for writers than ever before to self-publish, no matter the genre. For author and independent publisher Bob Morris, there is no reason to not pursue self-publishing your book as long as you have a good story to tell and understand the basics of book marketing and promotion. Self-publishing usually requires money up front, so Morris encourages writers to consider exploring the trend of crowd funding or crowd sourcing as a way to raise funds for a book project. His publishing company, Story Farm, has published many books that were funded by crowd sourcing. The key to a successful Kickstarter or GoFundMe campaign, he says, is already having a solid platform and loyal following in place. Writers should also consider providing a sample of the book or consider giving away something meaningful in exchange for a donation.
