Self-publishing usually requires money up front, so Morris encourages writers to consider exploring the trend of crowd funding or crowd sourcing as a way to raise funds for a book project. His publishing company, Story Farm, has published many books that were funded by crowd sourcing. The key to a successful Kickstarter or GoFundMe campaign, he says, is already having a solid platform and loyal following in place.
