Founder and bestselling author David Hancock says their process for vetting author submissions may be a little different from other publishing houses. What works well for them is the 80/20 rule: 80% of their decision is based on who the author is, their purpose or why behind the book, and what they are doing that connects the writing to something more. He believes it's much easier to sell a book when the author is living the message and serving an audience. The remaining 20% of their decision is based on the quality of the book, and Hancock is not deterred by a book that might need some editing support. www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../WhatMorganJamesPublishingLooksForWhenDecidingWhichAuthorstoWorkWith.mp4

Wiki Page: David Hancock on Morgan James Publishing and The Innovative Entrepreneurial Publishing Model

David Hancock founded Morgan James Publishing over twenty years ago because of his own experiences and challenges with publishing. Early on in his writing career, he was able to secure a contract with a traditional publisher, but was discouraged by the lack of creative control and support received in the process. He was even limited on the number of author copies he could order for speaking engagements, and had to get his presentations approved by the publisher. Over time, he found that many authors had similar frustrations and challenges and he knew it could be better. He then tried self-publishing where he was able to control everything, but struggled to build his platform and widen his distribution. This prompted him to develop an outline of a publishing model that was more supportive of the author. Hancock's goal with creating Morgan James Publishing and The Innovative Entrepreneurial Publishing model is to help entrepreneurs that want to publish a quality book and maintain control. He teaches his clients to focus on their long-term business goals and to think two products ahead, while giving them the resources they need to be successful. Morgan James Publishing is recognized as one of the first hybrid publishers, and has gone on to win multiple awards for the books it has published. www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../DavidHancockonMorganJamesPublishingandtheInnovativeEntrepreneurialPublishing.mp4

Wiki Page: Query Like a Pro - Proven Strategies to Land an Agent or Publisher

Querying is the crucial first step when seeking an agent or publisher, but amazingly is also something that very few authors do well. When you use it to do any writing, it tends to be missing human elements and personal touches. Your query letter should reflect your writing voice and best writing - it's your first and sometimes only impression with literary agents. You can certainly use AI to help draft an initial query letter, but we suggest you use that as a starting point only, and then add your personal touches. As a Senior Marketing Manager with W Publishing Group, a commercial nonfiction imprint of Thomas Nelson, Katherine Hudencial supports her author clients from start to finish, beginning about six months prior to a book's release. She develops an entire marketing campaign that gets implemented about sixty days prior to release and continues until ninety days after release. This plan encompasses everything from social media support and email marketing, to coaching and audience growth initiatives. Hudencial enjoys collaborating with the authors in determining how to best reach their target audiences. Her role also includes creating digital ads for platforms like Google and Amazon, and supporting in-person events such as book signings and launch parties. At the end of a book's marketing campaign, she provides the author with a progress report and analytics so they can move forward strategically. These reports and analytics also help her team to see what works and what can be finessed for future marketing campaigns. www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../HowWPublishingGroupAssistsAuthorswithMarketingTheirBook.mp4
