Deciding which publishing path to pursue can be overwhelming and difficult. Award-winning children's author Hayley Rose recommends that authors understand their end goal before choosing a path. What do you hope to get out of publishing your work? For Rose, writing children's books was an accident which became a calling. While she initially worked with a traditional publisher, she now publishes independently so she has more control. With a traditional publisher you won't have to spend any money up front and the potential for income may be greater, but you will likely lose the vision for your work. No matter which publishing path you choose you will have to "drive the boat" and take ownership of all of the details in order to be successful.
