Knowing that she wanted to pursue a traditional publishing path, middle-grade author Laura Martin queried many literary agents. Her work caught the attention of well-known and highly respected literary agent Jodi Reamer with Writers House. Reamer's client list includes authors like Stephenie Meyer and John Green, so Martin knew how lucky she was to be added to that list. Reamer landed a two-book deal for Martin with Harper Collins, who published her critically acclaimed series Edge of Extinction. Harper Collins also published Martin’s latest release, Float. The key advantage of working with an agent, she says, is having someone who is knowledgeable and experienced handling all contracts and negotiations. Working with a literary agent also allows Martin to focus more on the writing. And, as a busy mom this extra support is very helpful. While the traditional publishing process can be long, challenging, and not always glamorous, Martin has found it to be the right fit for her and her work.
