Author CS Marks provides tips on character-driven storytelling and shares her writing process of letting the characters determine the plot. She says that there are two kinds of fiction stories. The first kind is a story where the circumstances are already set and the characters are drawn through the circumstances. The second kind of story is character-driven, which is what Marks prefers. In character-driven storytelling, the characters' actions determine the story. Marks uses a writing process of starting with the characters, setting them on their way with an ending in mind, and letting the characters guide the story forward. To follow this writing process, you must have developed and fleshed-out your characters before writing the story. Even if you have a plot outline, you don't have to be locked into it. If your characters lead you in another direction, follow it.

www.authorlearningcenter.com/.../ALCChrisMarksCharacterDrivenStorytellingA010511.mp4
