In his 1949 book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Professor Joseph Campbell laid out the literary hero’s journey, a common path that story protagonists follow in which they emerge from an adventure transformed. Decades later, Campbell admitted that the hero’s journey didn’t really apply to women characters. Writer and psychotherapist Dr. Stacey Simmons wanted to change that. She began studying the journey of women in novels and film, and found that they were more influenced by societal expectations and pressures. This is how she eventually came to the term "Queen’s Path," a new and modernized version of the hero’s journey for female characters.
