Television characters of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s had more variety and likability than the characters of modern TV shows, believes Herbie J Pilato, a writer, producer, TV host, and president of Television, Ink. In the classic shows, there were bright colors and characters with heart. This is in contrast to the shows of today, with sarcastic, sardonic characters who roll their eyes, says Pilato. He acknowledges that modern actors are talented, but many of them look the same as one another, and behave in the same ways. There isn’t as much diversity in attitudes and appearances. Pilato cites Gilligan’s Island as a cast with an assortment of looks and personalities.
