For screenwriter, author, and MFA educator Michael Tabb, the most important thing when starting a new story or screenplay is figuring out what to say. To do this effectively, Tabb looks inward. While looking outside of yourself for ideas can broaden your options, he doesn't recommend this approach. By looking inward you are more likely to have passion and purpose behind what you write. Tabb believes that every individual has a unique way of looking at things, so even if you want to write about a topic or story line that has already been done, you can use your unique voice to say it in a different way.
