Every writer finds some element or aspect of writing to be challenging. For many writers, integrating humor into their stories can be difficult. But for fiction author Lisa Beazley, the humor element has always come naturally. Her debut novel, Keep Me Posted, is the story of two sisters that decide to reconnect through old-fashioned letters, and has been called "a hilariously, entertaining read" by The Associated Press. The key to writing good humor, Beazley says, is to avoid having it read like you are trying too hard. She recommends writing to your strengths, which has worked well for her. If you do want to try and integrate humor into your story and aren't sure how it will be received, be sure to get feedback from critique partners or editors, she says. Your readers will let you know if it's not working.
