Young Adult author Janette Rallison discusses which topics work well when writing YA fiction. There’s a large market for YA, and there’s quite a bit of variety in the topics available. “Really any issue can be a young adult book as long as it pertains to the teenagers,” Rallison says. If you’re writing about light topics, that’s great. However, some teens are definitely searching for darker topics, and writing within those topic takes great care. In this clip, Rallison talks about why it’s so important to meticulously research these topic. In part because the topics are sensitive and in part because an author wants to avoid misinforming teenagers.
