Many people, even video game players themselves, will say that the games do not have stories. But they absolutely do, explains writer and producer Craig Miller. As a player, you don’t know the story when you first start playing – instead, you discover the story as you play it. Miller compares this process to life itself. You don’t know the story of your life until you have actually lived it. In a video game, you make certain choices that influence what you see or do later on. You have to find different paths or characters to move on to another level or area. A video game player only knows the game’s story in retrospect. You make it your own, and won’t follow the exact same path or story as others. The video game designers, on the other hand, must know all of the possible story outcomes as they are designing the game.
