This approach gave her a little more freedom with the storyline. By not telling the story from a historical figure&#39;s perspective, characters can come and go as needed and aren&#39;t dictated by the story. Her main character is an everyman and any judgments he passes are based purely on his own experiences. The story succeeds in keeping Jesus a bit of a mystery and focuses more on the main character&#39;s road to discovering Jesus.
