Based on real life events, The Legacy Series follows the struggles of a terminally ill, abused teenager growing up in the early nineties. Author Brandyn Cross was compelled to write the heartbreaking story after reading the thousands of online conversations between the boy and other teenagers that took place on message boards. These conversations revealed the unpleasant truths of what was going on in their lives. Cross used this correspondence and the boy's poetry as the foundation to his story. Because there were holes and gaps in the information, Cross had to fictionalize some things to complete the story.
