It’s a cliché that a writer’s life is solitary because so much of the writing process is done in private. However, writers don’t need to be lonely. The writing community is large and diverse—there are so many different types of writers. Because many writers want to connect with one another, networking within writers circles is possible and quite a bit of fun. Authors can meet one another online, but they can also meet each other at conferences, workshops, and other events. While networking, some writers create formal groups as support systems in today’s complex publishing world. For example, YA Chicks is a group of young adult authors that work together to achieve goals and do events. Racquel Henry, writer and editor, is a member of the group and loves the support system that YA Chicks provides. In this clip, she describes how she met the other writers and what they do to encourage one another. Learn how a writer’s group can help you in your publishing journey, from drafting to editing to marketing.
