Listening to other authors’ writing process can be invaluable as each individual crafts his or her own writing process. In the clip below, Joe Meno, author of "Office Girl,” shares his process for writing. He begins with a short story, specifically with his characters. “I have this really specific idea of what a story is,” Meno says. “For me a story is about characters and their relationship to each other.” After writing a short story, Menno turns it into a play. As he gets the play produced, he finally thinks about developing that idea into a novel. This is an unusual and complex process, and has elements that are helpful to other authors’ processes.
