Almost any author interview includes some variation of the questions “When did you know you wanted to be a writer?” or “How did you become a writer?” Readers are intrigued by what inspires and informs an author's writing. Having a good answer in your back pocket can be helpful in formal interview settings and at author events. M. Todd Gallowglas, writer, critic, and educator, shares his early inspirations for becoming a writer. The first story he remembers writing was for a creative writing assignment in the third grade.
