CF Yetmen, author of “The Roses Underneath,” talks about what inspired her to write her novel and how that book came together. Yetmen decided to write the book for a number of reasons. Working is publishing her entire career, she knew what it takes to turn a manuscript into a published book—but she didn't know how to write one herself. So, she started going to writing workshops, networking with other writers, and learning how to structure a novel. It seemed less mysterious and she became excited and interested in doing it herself. “The Roses Underneath" was inspired by the story of her German grandmother and mother who were displaced by war. Her book is fiction, but is similar to her grandmother's story. She also used her life experiences as a mother and lover of architecture to write the story. And as a fan of historical fiction and mysteries, she incorporated those elements into “The Roses Underneath" as well.
