The strong personal connection that author, speaker, and artist Laurie Finkelstein has with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) serves as both an inspiration and valuable resource. As someone who has struggled with her mental health, Finkelstein has found NAMI to be helpful in her own life. And because her book Next Therapist Please deals with mental health issues, the influences of NAMI can be found throughout its pages. Finkelstein brings attention to NAMI whenever she can, including at the end of her book, and also donates a small portion of the money made off her book to the alliance. NAMI is “dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness,” according to its mission statement, and Finkelstein tries to do this in her own book by showing readers they are not alone in their struggles.
