Staying on top of trends is an important component of being successful as an author. In his book You're Always Being Interviewed, Apprentice University, Inc. founder Ron Brumbarger discusses the idea of learning dispositions and how different individuals approach learning. For him, it is crucial to be learning constantly because the minute you stop you become stale. Keeping up with world news, industry news, and news relevant to your book topic or theme will keep you and your writing fresh and interesting. Two ways that authors can keep current on trends are to teach and to speak publically. Teaching requires you to be a student during the preparation process, while public speaking requires you to research and innovate. Being open to learning will not only help you improve your writing craft, but also your marketing and branding skills.
