Marlan Warren, author and publicist with Roadmap Communications, sees many books as a reviewer for Midwest Book Review. There are two common errors she has noticed that can prevent a book from receiving a positive review. The first mistake is writing a book that is not universally appealing. Of course your book can’t resonate with everyone, but your writing and theme should be able to capture the minds of a wide audience, not just one very specific group. The other mistake Warren sees are books that appears to be fragmented. While there may be a central theme, the story is hard to follow and there are inconsistencies that will confuse readers. Be sure to have professional editors or beta readers review your book before submitting for a review. They can help identify these types of mistakes.
