There are few things in life that are as challenging to your self-worth and self-esteem as writing, says journalist and author Ray Richmond. That’s why he believes it’s okay to give yourself a break and receive feedback, good and bad, with a grain of salt. If people reject your writing, don’t consider it a failure. Be proud that you put yourself and your writing out into the world, and that you stayed true to your voice and style. Instead of leaving your story in your journal, or on your hard drive, you made an effort and should feel good about that. Richmond reminds writers that if you don’t share your work, you’re simply rejecting yourself.
