Apprentice University, Inc. founder Ron Brumbarger is a frequent speaker on mentoring. With over twenty-five years as former president and CEO of a major technology firm, he understands the value of both being a mentor and having good mentors to offer guidance. When Brumbarger had the idea to write his first book, You're Always Being Interviewed, he experienced the emotions that many first time authors feel - fear, self-doubt, and overwhelmed by the process. He reached out to several people in his network that had already written and published books and that he considered to be mentors in some capacity. These contacts helped guide him through the writing and publishing journey. A good mentor will be candid and honest with you, Brumbarger says, and the relationship doesn't always have to be formal. The key to building a strong network of mentors is surrounding yourself with people you respect and admire.
