Her creative writing and English teacher recognized her talent and encouraged her to continue writing. Later on, she found another mentor, a writer at <em>The L.A. Times</em>, who taught Macias that writers cannot wait for the muse to whisper &ndash; write when you need to write, even if it&rsquo;s not perfect. Another mentor she mentions is an editor from a publishing house, who showed Macias how to tighten her writing and write with impact. Now, Macias is paying it forward and has created an online mentoring service to encourage other writers.
