The guiding principle should be the awareness that a nonfiction book is ultimately a teaching tool. When someone picks up a nonfiction book, he or she is asking &amp;ldquo;what am I going to learn?&amp;rdquo; For example, the first thing a shopper does is read your title, which is absolutely vital. The title of a nonfiction book needs to communicate the topic of the book with precision. The topic of a nonfiction book will prompt someone to turn over the book and read the back cover. This back cover is also important as it will give the reader an overview of the content and the tone in which it will be taught. Finally, the table of contents is important because shoppers tend to open a book and scan for what they will learn.
