Georgia Lee on Transitioning from Nonfiction to Fiction Writing - podcast

Award-winning journalist Georgia Lee believes that her career in journalism has been her best writing teacher. She learned how to ask questions and conduct research to understand the topics she was writing about, all with high standards and under tight deadlines. Now a memoir writing teacher and aspiring novelist, Lee says the transition from journalism to other types of nonfiction writing was easier for her than the transition to fiction writing. The creativity and imagination that certain fiction genres require take a specific skill set as a writer. While she may never write a fantasy novel herself, Lee believes that the very best writers can write about anything. But it can take years to develop this level of talent and craft.
