Writer and producer Jack Bernstein, known for the film Ace Ventura and for his work on popular TV shows such as Monk and NCIS: New Orleans, started out writing for television before moving on to feature films. His preferred format is television due to a few key differences. Films must tell the full story with a beginning, middle, and end in just a couple of hours, where a television show has the whole season to tell the full story. While screenwriters might get more recognition for their work on a film, they also tend to lose creative control due to multiple directors with differing visions. This was his experience with Ace Ventura. Bernstein has also found that there are more work opportunities in television and that working on a television show or series provides more instant gratification since a film can take years to develop and produce.
