  • Keith, You've given me much to think about. Although, I do a lot of what you have said, there are definitely some points I need to work on. Your presentation was very informative, and I would recommend any hopeful author to listen to it. Thank you.
  • I wish I would have had a lot of that information before I set out to write my book. My daughter was so sure I should get a publisher but as I worked with publishing houses I found out a lot of things. Full manuscript first and then let you know, etc. None of this sounded good. I learned a lot because my daughter was not happy with me spending money for something that could have been done with a publisher who just took the manuscript and everything was done and paid for. Forget that idea. They don't even want to listen to you about your book. I remember finally sending a few pages to Tinsdale and they wrote back their reasons why and I then sent another email to that person with a sweet note, 'You'll be sorry!!' Made me feel good anyway. I thought I had a good and interesting book. It was sending it to 5 publishing houses that started giving me hope and direction. I sent a few pages and the very next day Herbert Perez called and we had 3 calls before I signed. He was so informative, encouraging, saying things like, 'nothing like that out there'. It just kept getting better and better and more exciting. (Herbert costs a lot!!!) - so my daughter should investigate like I did but she didn't want to hear that. She still is unhappy about it (I so want it to sell good and help others to prove a little something to her) - she has yet to look at the finished book and told me she didn't think it was worth publishing. So you see that was my first (and painful being a close family member) encounter with someone that did not know what I eventually learned. I have simply been excited about Xlibris and their excellent support is wonderful. Much more. Thanks for letting me vent, probably not good here. Your article was just what I needed. Thanks Keith. • Keith, a thought came to me and I want to pass it on. Has anyone ever approached Holland America or any Line with the idea of having a type of 'Author Learning Center/book fair/book signing/author seminars on their book, etc.?? It would be a cruise for authors and would be/could be authors - It could even end at the book fair somewhere. I think it could be great fun and so beneficial. What do you think? Ruth Lampe
  • Hi Keith, thank you for all the information. I am new to ALC. Yes, I did set a date, this year, now I narrowed it down to next month. My timeline was not to procrastinate any longer, working on it since 2005. I do better in the AM. Have a friend that has encouraged me when I wanted to give up I am working on where to have the book signing. After listening to you, maybe I can do my birthday with a book sale. I had already made a list to send the book to people that encouraged me with my first book and now this one. My only dilemma is I have so much email, so many of videos like yours to listen to, my stomach gets in knots. I am a "B" personality and the marketing feels overwhelming. I sold all of my first books myself, but that was 24 yrs ago. I am creating all the resources that I know, but this feeling makes me want to hide? I cannot afford the marketing from the company, but I am using other avenues. Sincerely, ladynoble1 Please excuse if you received this, I did not see it go through.
