If you write fiction, it may be hard to come up with a topic for speaking engagements such as a panel or radio show, besides simply reading from your book. What else will people want to hear? Book marketing expert and author Desiree Duffy says there are plenty of other talking points to hook readers. You have to tell them the story behind the story – how did you become an author? What makes you unique? Does your book have a universal theme? If you’re speaking with other writers, talk about the craft or your writing process. How did you create your characters and build your world? Giving current and potential readers a behind-the-scenes look at your work can be exciting and enlightening.
