Addressing the “Wants” of Audiences as a Public Speaker

Bestselling author, TEDx Speaker, and special advisor Dr. Mark Goulston’s books address what audiences need, but may not necessarily know they want. With titles like Get Out of Your Own Way and Just Listen, Dr. Goulston knows that many people may not really want to do these things, at least on the surface level. But you can’t write a book based on what you think people should want. Instead, find out what audiences are actually looking for – Dr. Goulston learned from the leader of a speaker’s bureau, for example, that the most requested talk is about dealing with uncertainty. By asking questions and digging deep, you can use your unique perspective to write a book or speech that addresses what people really want, and begin to build a relationship with audiences that will see a need for your books.
