Marketing Children's Books - video

A holistic use of text, images and themes around topics like bullying, acceptance, tolerance and self-esteem helped author and illustrator Kathryn Otoshi redefine how she marketed children's books. Integrating such themes allowed her to expand from a target market of age 3-7 up to 9th grade. Otoshi adapts readings according to her audience, delving into her filmmaking background and decision-making around text, image and meaning for high schoolers. Communities have since rallied around the books, given the inspirational nature and effect on kids.

  • Hi Kathryn, I do like the creative way you included color to represent emotions, it helps make the topic more embraceable in an easy way which certainly allows you to get your message across. No wonder you are even able to reach the older age group with your message. How did you go about marketing across the ages?

But even though, I have insight on what I want to write about, the characters, and the messages I want to convey...I just can't seem to get them organized and into words.
