The Importance of Networking for New Writers - podcast

Author Ed Aymar's approach to writing his first couple of books was to hide out in a cave and he didn't emerge until he was finished. While this felt like the right approach at the time, he does not recommend this approach to other writers. The connections you make early on will be very important down the road and will also provide guidance as you write.
